Senior Centers
At the West Haven Senior Center, the Department of Elderly Services provides a variety of services and activities to help residents 55 or older “enhance their dignity, support their independence and encourage their involvement with the community.”

The Center offers:
• Information/assistance/referral for such concerns of elderly as: applying for entitlement programs; filling out income tax forms; meeting housing needs; obtaining home-care services.
• Nutritious hot lunch served certain days.

West Haven Senior Center has Medical Equipment Loan Closet Program. Equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, commodes provided free to any resident in need. Small store operated to defray some of program’s cost. Donations of equipment always welcome.

The City of West Haven subcontracts its transportation service with Greater New Haven Transit District (GNTD). Transportation services are available for medical appointments and/or rides to the Senior Center. To schedule rides for medical appointments in New Haven, West Haven and the Orange Medical Clinic, you must call 203-281-2520 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at least three days in advance. Appointments must be scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The cost is $2.00 round-trip. Transportation to the Senior Center is free. Anyone needing this service should contact the Senior Center at 203-937-3507 to set up the initial schedule.
Mary Wade Home, with funds from South Central Connecticut Area Agency on Aging, offers persons 60+ in New Haven area medical transportation and transportation on weekends to locations of their choice. Donations from riders welcome.
