Senior Center
Center’s mission “ to provide services and programs for older adults of the Wallingford Community that enhance their dignity, support their independence and invite their involvement in community life.” Center administered by nonprofit Wallingford Committee on Aging, Inc., under contract to Town. Member Advisory Council informs and advises Executive Director regarding operations and programs of Center.

Computer Learning Center: variety of classes available for both beginning and advanced computer users;
modest fees charged and used to support activities of Learning Center.
Senior Center staff and trained volunteers provide full range of Social Services, coordinated by Social Worker, including: information/assistance/referral • short-term counseling and follow-up • health insurance counseling • benefits counseling • outreach visits to homebound • intergenerational programs • legislative updates on state and federal programs • seminars and workshops on
variety of topics • geriatric assessments.
Registered nurse is in Senior Center each morning to provide or coordinate variety of Health/Wellness/Fitness Programs, including: health screenings • vaccine clinics • wellness days featuring concentrated series of topics • guest speakers for lectures/discussions/workshops • encouragement and evaluation of involvement in fitness/exercise/sports programs of Center. Nurse available for consultations: by appointment, Mon./Wed./Fri.; first come, first served, Tues./Thurs.
Daily Activities for Independence (DAI) is “social model” adult day program organized by Center and “designed to promote and maintain independence for older adults with mild cognitive and/or physical impairments.” For info, contact Melinda Welch, DAI Program Coordinator.
Transportation services arranged by Center are managed by Barbara Mushinski.
Transportation Services
Senior Center organizes curb-to-curb transportation system for “Wallingford residents age 60 and over who do not drive their own vehicles or who cannot access a public transportation system to reach their desired destination” and for vehicle owners on temporary basis under certain conditions. Reservations required by noon of preceding workday by contacting Center at 203-265-7753. Transportation Coordinator is Barbara Mushinski.
