Municipal Agent for the Elderly, on staff of Department under state guidelines, provides information on and referrals to local, state, federal resources regarding matters of concern to the elderly. Senior Center has no charge for membership, but some programs and activities require fee. Center includes:
Activities: exercise, fitness, movement sessions; yoga; bocce; bingo; arts and crafts; card games and lessons; quilting; dancing; computer classes; discussion groups; concerts; safe driving courses; speakers; cooking classes; The Depot Express newsletter; notary services (by appointment) • more!
Medicare Mondays: Carlos A. Maynard of Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut assists residents with Medicare, Medigap, Medicaid questions. First Mon. of each month, 9-11 a.m. By appointment only.

Wellness Wednesdays: health and wellness lectures by Chris DeBisschop, RN, BSN.
Legal assistance: free one-on-one counseling 3rd Thurs. of each month by local attorneys.
Daily nutritious hot lunch in Senior Community Café: Reservations required 24 hours in advance for regular lunches and one week in advance for special ones. Suggested donation $2 per meal. Free raffle on Fridays. For reservations, call: 203-245-5686. 
Meet Madison: Once a month at lunchtime well-informed residents of Madison speak on various topics.
Benefits QuickLINK: Knowledgeable members of RSVP/Retired Senior Volunteer Program of South Central Connecticut conduct free, confidential “benefits screenings.” Appointment required. Call: 203-245-5687.
Trips: Pre-registration required.
Blood pressure checks: Provided by VNA Services on 2nd and 4th Mon. of each month, usually at 12:45 p.m.
Madison Senior Services works with Estuary Council of Seniors on Meals on Wheels program, delivering hot meals at noontime to the homebound and isolated. 4-5 days notice required. Call: 860-366-1611, Ext. 207.

Shoreline Institute of Lifelong Learning

Diverse slate of academic programs taught (in daytime) by experts at college level. Modest fees.

Transportation Services

Madison residents age 60+ or disabled have several transportation options designed to meet their needs:
Senior Bus travels by fixed routes to: Senior Center; downtown; special events; grocery shopping. 48 hrs. advance notice for pickup required. Call: 203-245-5627.
Dial-A-Ride is public transportation program for travel to medical appointments, and shopping. 48 hrs. minimum notice for pickup required. Call: 203-245-5695.
Madison Community Services/Medical Transportation Program provides rides to doctor’s appointments in Madison area. 4 days advance notice for pickup required. Call: 203-245-3031.
Shoreline Shuttle Estuary Transit District Route Bus picks up Mon.-Fri. at The Depot at 10:20 a.m. for travel to nine towns in Madison-to-Old Saybrook area and returns at 2:30 p.m. Pre-registration required. Call: 860-510-0429 for pickup arrangements.

Emergency Medical Services

In Madison:
Police Department is First Responder for Emergency Medical Services. Each officer trained to at least MRT-D level, with access to medical equipment.
North Madison Volunteer Fire Company serves as Supplemental First Responder, with many members certified as MRTs and EMTs.
Madison Ambulance Association transports ill and injured to area medical facilities. Association is private, nonprofit organization supported by Town.
