MedAssist is free service with trained counselors. Mission is to help residents understand how they can best handle health care choices. Senior Outreach Coordinator provides assistance to older individuals that “will enable them to remain safe, healthy, independent and financially stable . . . . Coordinator is responsible for providing immediate short-term counseling, referral assistance and problem resolution, whenever possible to older adults with a variety of circumstances which include health, housing, abuse, transportation, employment and a host of other issues.”

Stamford Senior Center

Serves large and diverse group of residents/taxpayers/City employees 50 years or older. Requested membership contribution is $20 per person and $28 for two at same address.

Scofield Manor. Licensed Residential Care Home on 11 acres with 27 rooms for 50 residents needing some assistance but not 24-hr. skilled nursing care. Managed by Stamford Housing Authority under contract with Stamford Elderly Housing Corporation. Board and room may be paid by Medicaid.

Jewish Family Service of Stamford, Inc., has Family Life Education/Support Groups providing educational and emotional support to families and individuals in relation to life-cycle events, such as bereavement, widow(er)hood, adult children with aged parents, etc. Available without regard to race, religion, etc.

Community Education and Outreach Programs include:
Senior Awareness for Emegencies (SAFE). SEMS arranges visits to senior buildings to discuss emergency preparedness and medical care. Blood pressure screenings also performed.
Vial of Life Program. SEMS educates residents on this program in which seniors place medical and other pertinent information in medication vial kept in refrigerator marked with special magnet. In emergency, responders can obtain information if individual unable to offer it.
