Provides  a lunch program, health screenings, counseling on federal and state benefit programs, financial and insurance counseling, more—and educational, social and recreational programs (computer classes, field trips, more)—for persons age 55 or older. Membership generally required for programs and activities ($4.00 for Shelton residents; $7.00-$10.00 for nonresidents).

Senior Commission

Shelton’s Senior Commission addresses issues connected with aging and advises Senior Center. Commission consists of nine members, appointed for two-year terms by the mayor.  Regular meetings are held at the Shelton Senior Center at 4:00 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.

Outreach Program/Transportation Services

Based at the Senior Center. Focuses on providing transportation services, including free door-to-door transportation. Hours of availability: Mon.-Fri., 9:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. For information, call the Outreach Program at 203-924-9324.
The program offers transportation:

To and from medical/dental appointments in Shelton, Derby, Seymour and Ansonia for Shelton residents age 55 or older or those unable to use fixed-route bus service. Rides must be reserved by calling the Senior Center 24 hours to 14 days in advance. 

To and from the Senior Center for Shelton residents who are members of the Center, Mon.-Fri. Transportation to a local shopping center provided on Wed. For information, call Valley Transit at 203-735-6408.

Tax Relief, Rent Refunds and Utility Bill Refunds Programs

The Assessor’s Office administers various state and local programs of tax relief and rent and utility bill refunds available to homeowners and renters who are age 65 or older or at any age for residents who are legally blind or fully disabled and to wartime or disabled veterans.

Paramedic care provided through Valley EMS, the regional paramedic provider serving the Lower Naugatuck Valley.
